Brancos Elefantes is a short film produced by Sara Benvenuto, result of her experience at New York Film Academy. It is based in Ernest Hemingway’s short story Hills Like White Elephants. In Hills Like White Elephants the conflict turns around a decision to be taken between the couple. This is an important decision for their lives and is related to a possible abortion. The man wants to persuade his partner but she feels uncertain in relation the decision. But the question of abortion is not explicit in the short story, as well as in Brancos Elefantes. As in the Hemingway’s short story the anxiety and the lack of ability to communicate with each other is clearly present in this film version. But differently from Hemingway’s short story and others films version, Jig’s character in Brancos Elefantes seems to have more control about herself and about her life. The girl did not finish her drink and she did not smoke a second cigarette. So, this is a clue that she will not do the abortion. This is an excellent film version and it was award-winner in the 12º Festival Nóia de Cinema Brasileiro.
